A UPDF supporter has been shot dead after being kidnapped in Belaichari under Rangamati district, sources say.
The deceased has been identified as Noni Tanchangya, 50, son of Jogendra Tanchangya. He is the Karbari or head of his village, Sakkarachari Mukh Para.
According to sources, a group of armed men loyal to Santu Larma, President of Jana Samhati Samiti (Santu faction), kidnapped him from his home at 10am today.
They took him at a place between Sakkarachari and Tinkunia and then killed him.
His body was recovered at noon.
Mr. Tanchangya is an active supporter of the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF).
UPDF leader Alakesh Chakma condemned the killing and urged the government to take immediate steps to arrest the culprits.
He also urged Santu Larma to shun violence and work for a greater unity of the Jumma people.
